Over the last couple of days, seven Afghan nationals were detained at Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) in New Delhi for smuggling heroin, The Times of India reported.
The smugglers had ingested around 177 capsules of heroin, aiming to smuggle into India. The detainees have been recovered and looked after by the Narcotics Control Bureau of New Delhi, the report said.
According to narcotics officials, the detained men have been fed dozens of bananas and liquid to enhance the process of recovery over the past few days. The x-ray tests had shown the presence of the drug in their stomachs.
As of now, nine Afghan nationals, along with two receivers based in New Delhi, have been arrested for the committed crime narcotics officials said. Further investigations are underway to find out how the drug dealer link with local traders within India and beyond.
"Afghan and other nationals have been arrested for smuggling drugs into India previously as well. So the Narcotics Control Bureau of India should act rather seriously," a narcotics official said.
